Emirates has become one of the first major airlines to integrate cryptocurrency directly into its booking flow, allowing customers to pay with digital assets through Crypto.com Pay. The move positions the Dubai-based carrier at the intersection of aviation and the growing digital economy, targeting a generation that manages finances and plans trips almost entirely from their smartphones. Main Developments Customers with a Crypto.com account can now select Crypto.com Pay at checkout on emirates.com or the Emirates App. The payment option initially applies to UAE residents booking in Emirati Dirham (AED). On mobile, users booking through the Emirates App are directed to the Crypto.com app to complete payment from their wallet, then redirected back to the Emirates App for confirmation and e-ticket. Desktop users select Crypto.com Pay, scan a QR code displayed on the booking page, and approve the payment in their Crypto.com app. Read also: Pakistan adjusts fuel prices: diesel up, petrol down slightly Transactions are processed securely and comply with UAE regulatory standards. The integration is powered by Crypto.com’s Dubai entity, which holds the first Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) licence granted a Stored Value Facilities (SVF) licence by the Central Bank of the UAE. Background The launch implements a partnership between Crypto.com and Emirates announced in 2025. Crypto.com, a Singaporean cryptocurrency exchange, serves over 100 million users worldwide and offers an app, an exchange, and a noncustodial DeFi wallet. Emirates has been exploring digital payment innovations for years, and this integration marks its first direct crypto payment option at checkout. The airline previously launched NFT collectibles and metaverse experiences as part of its digital strategy. Why It Matters Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, said the move delivers on the airline’s commitment to expanding customer choice in how they pay for travel. He noted it reflects the preferences of a younger, digitally fluent generation who manage money and plan journeys from their phones and expect airlines to keep pace. Eric Anziani, President and COO of Crypto.com, called the partnership a milestone and a testament to the UAE’s forward-thinking approach to innovation. The integration could set a precedent for other airlines exploring crypto payments, particularly in regions with supportive regulatory frameworks like the UAE. What's Next Emirates has not announced expansion of Crypto.com Pay to other currencies or regions beyond UAE residents paying in AED. The airline may extend the option to more markets as regulatory approvals and demand evolve. Crypto.com’s SVF licence from the Central Bank of the UAE provides a regulatory foundation that could support broader adoption of crypto payments in the travel sector. Whether other major carriers follow Emirates’ lead will depend on customer uptake and regional crypto regulations.
